Shakespeare was on to something. April does have a youth-ing effect, especially where I live. April hopskotches between the blusters of March and the glories of May.
If you live elsewhere on the globe, it may be the month of segue from Summer to Autumn, the effect of which is not so different from its temperamental play dates with both Winter and Spring back here!
Some days April is sunny and bright, while other days she’s grey-eyed with teardrops and coolness in the atmosphere. Sometimes, she’s downright cranky. Rather like a month of nature’s adolescence.
But what has April to do with how to grow a life in terms of our spiritual development?
Shakespeare gave us the quest – a spirit of youth. The psalmist David gave us the prescription:
O my soul, bless GOD. From head to toe, I’ll bless His holy name!
He wraps you in goodness–beauty eternal.
He renews your youth–you’re always young in His presence.
Psalm 103:1,5 MSG
David’s biblical instruction, paraphrased as a physician’s Rx, might read like this:
To arrest the effects of soul aging evidenced by such symptoms as
worry wrinkles, haggard hope, and tired testimony of bygone days,
soak one’s soul in blessing the holy Name of Almighty God, Creator.
Minimum dosage: Bless Daily. This dosage may be exceeded without limit.
Side effects may and likely will include peace that passes understanding,
expectancy that blooms like a watered garden, and fresh praise of the
goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Guaranteed renewal of a youthful spirit and inner glow of eternal beauty.
Personal results vary depending upon one’s soul necessity and desire.
Generational studies have proven the lasting and timeless outcome of
daily blessing the Person and Name of our Heavenly Father, from Whom
all blessings flow. With ongoing use, typical result is being overtaken with joy
and gladness. Sorrow and sighing’s absence will be noticeably increased.
If as Shakespeare said, April hath put the spirit of youth into everything, with April giving way to May, how much more lasting effect will there be to your spirit from blessing the Lord for all His goodness and faithfulness?
